Freedom? of Choice Act

Barack Obama was a co-sponsor of the Freedom of Choice Act and has promised to sign it if it gets to his desk. This bill basically states that every woman has a fundemental right to terminate a pregnancy and that it "It prohibits a federal, state, or local governmental entity from denying or interfering with a woman's right to exercise such choices; or discriminating against the exercise of those rights in the regulation or provision of benefits, facilities, services, or information. Provides that such prohibition shall apply retroactively" It goes on to say that "It also authorizes an individual aggrieved by a violation of this Act to obtain appropriate relief, including relief against a governmental entity, in a civil action."

The long and short, "I want an abortion and if you dont do it, I'm going to sue!!" This is also tied in to all funding, so of course it is tied to Medicare and Medicaid so if hospitals refuse, they can lose all funding. As you can imagine physicians who oppose abortion are incensed. Cases have already been filed and won when an reproductive specialist refused to implant embryos in a lesbian couple on religious grounds. Apparently Freedom of Religion no longer applies.

So we now have a president who would rather try to force abortion than respect freedom of religion. It is going to be a very interesting year. I can only imagine what Catholic Health Partners are thinking.

IHi Throckmorton - I worked for a Catholic hospital corporation. Crucifixes on the walls, priest gives morning prayer over the intercom, Catholic charities..Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother and all very Catholic.

The absolutely most beautiful retirement facility I have EVER been in..right next door to the mother hospital..Franciscan Oaks. (Expensive-3 levels of care Individual apartments (nice), assisted and then nursing home. They have EVERYTHING in there..sorry digressing, could do a commercial for the place.

They have a less expensive, older but nice retirement facility around the corner St Francis.

I can't imagine a place as catholic as all that will be willing to bend and do abortions. It goes against what they believe. It would be morally wrong. I am not catholic but I believe they would consider abortion a mortal sin. They could not condone abortion.

So...would Obama's bill make it mandatory if they want funding?

That would seriously hurt them. The last I knew they have 3 hospitals and a drug rehab.

Can't these women just go to someone or some place that doesn't care or see it as a moral issue?

So...as a doctor...you would not have a right to refuse.

Partial birth abortion. He was also on board with partial birth abortion.

I guess I am slow on the uptake of this...but WHY would anyone think it is alright to force someone to kill another human being...a baby? I mean fetus-product of conception.

I got into a discussion once with an ED doc about abortion. He was adamant that the baby is NOT a baby until it is born. Talk about denial!

It's not like it is morphing from a chicken or dog into a baby once it hits the air.

They are salivating to get their hands on health care. I am trying..really trying to be hopeful about this administration... but what you just posted sickens me.. (not your post) the bill and what it represents.

One more thing and I know off track. This doc was one of my favorite docs to work with ever and so I don't mean it personally against him but the other thing he said that made me crazy was about pain in the womb.

I brought up how the baby is burned alive during a saline abortion and writhes in pain. He said you can't prove the fetus is in pain! I would think that if the baby suddenly starts writhing around that it is experiencing something.

And following his logic... even if you can't prove the pain...you also can't disprove the pain. And so if you can't disprove it... why not err on the side of not causing additional pain to a helpless human being. That's something I imagine Dr Mengele doing.

Delete this if you want. i vented. :)
